I can turn my data on so the text will send, but I don’t always realize the text hasn’t been sent until I haven’t received a response, and I’m waiting to hear back from the person. Also, I miss texts from those same contacts if my data isn’t turned on. I keep it off to save my battery life.
I am guessing you have RCS messaging, also known as “Chat Features”, enabled on your phone. When using RCS messaging the text messages are sent using data over the internet instead of using SMS. If you don’t have data enabled, or the person you are sending messages to doesn’t have data enabled, then the messages will stay on the senders phone until both parties have a data connection and then message will be delivered. That means if you have RCS on and have a habit of disabling your data you can miss messages until data is back on.If you don’t want that then you have to turn “Chat Features” off on your devices.https://support.google.com/messages/answer/9487020?hl=en#zippy=%2Cwhat-are-chat-features%2Cwhat-happens-if-i-dont-have-data-or-the-recipient-isnt-online
