Was phished by at work w/ owners name on the email alias, purchased $1,250 in Google Play gift cards and shared the card pins thinking it was the owner. Wondering how to report this to Google as fraud so it can be reported and tracked for law enforcement. Also purchased Apple cards, currently reporting that via their customer service. And, yes, I’m a moron. 49 years old, but apparently I just turned into a feeb out of the blue.
I am very sorry to hear that. Sadly, it happens to a lot of people (my own daughter recently almost fell for a phishing scam so I’m not throwing any stones).
If you gave the codes to the scammers, those cards will already be drained and the proceeds laundered beyond recovery.
Google suggests you contact your local law enforcement agency and report the scam to Google using the instructions on this page:
Never ever trust anyone that asks to be paid in any kind of gift card for anything. No matter how official they sound or what threats or promises they make.
Do NOT contact any email or phone number that posts here saying they can help you if you contact them directly. That’s not Google Support. That’s another scammer looking to cheat you again
