I’m only noticing this issue of very recently. I can’t download videos, can’t watch in the background.When I try downloading a video, it tells me I need to upgrade Premium, even though when I go to my account, it tells me that I am a premium member. It lists my credit/debit card info, and the next pay period.

Thanks for all the reports as we worked things out.If you have any questions regarding your paid subscription, you can contact YouTube Premium support here.Update – some people have reported that disconnecting bluetooth and/or wired headphones and then restarting the app resolves the issue. This is only a workaround, so you’ll want to keep these disconnected until the issue is fully resolved.
